A nice view of the western side of Mt. Washington from Rt. 302 near Bretton Woods. The Lion's Head route climbs to the summit from the other side, finishing up the rigthand skyline. The Cog Railway is the obvious path following the ridge to the north of Ammonoosuc Ravine. The most popular route to the summit on this side follows the Ammonoosuc Ravine trail which ascends the forested slopes just to the right of the main gully. It passes by the Lake of the Clouds Hut on its way to the summit. Ammonoosuc Ravine is a popular ski descent in the spring, as is Burt's Ravine, which is the bowl just left (north) of the Cog railway. And the Cog railway line itself is popular with backcountry skiers in the spring, offering one of the best skin tracks on the mountain.
