Synnott Mountain Guides is a year-round mountain climbing guide service operating out of Jackson, New Hampshire, in the heart of the majestic White Mountains. Jackson, a village of 600, is the home of New England's most famous peak -- Mt. Washington -- and is conveniently located between Pinkham Notch and the shopping and restaurants of North Conway.
As the owner and operator of Synnott Mountain Guides, I offer private and group climbing instruction in
rock climbing,
ice climbing,
mountain climbing and
backcountry skiing. I conduct courses at a variety of different areas including
Cathedral Ledge, Whitehorse Ledge, Cannon Cliff, Frankenstein Cliffs, Mt. Willard and
Lake Willoughby. We specialize in winter ascents of
Mt. Washington. I am also available for guided trips to a variety of areas throughout the US and abroad.
As a member of The North Face Climbing Team, my travels have taken me all over the world, from Alaska and Baffin Island, to the Amazon, the Himalayas and Africa. But I can safely say that I don't think I've ever been anywhere more beautiful than the White Mountains. I've been exploring this area since I was a kid and I still haven't come close to discovering all the different crags and peaks that stretch forth right from my door. Whether you're looking for a sunny day of multi-pitch
rock climbing at Cathedral Ledge, a day of
ice climbing in Crawford Notch, or an introduction to the sport of
mountaineering, Synnott Mountain Guides has the expertise and local knowledge you are looking for.
If you are interested in New Hampshire climbing, you have come to the right place. SMG can take care of all the arrangements for your visit, including lodging, transportation, and equipment. We can also provide or arrange airport pickup and dropoff at the nearest airports in Portland, Maine (1 1/2 hrs away) or Manchester, NH (2 1/2 hrs. away).
As a professional mountain climbing guide, I am often out in the hills, but please feel free to call or email me any time to discuss your mountain climbing goals. My home number is 603-383-6976 and my cell is 603-986-9607.
I look forward to hearing from you.
