Create lasting memories (and great family photos!) while enjoying some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery in the Northeast. No experience is necessary, and all the technical equipment is provided as part of the course cost. Our experienced, professional rock climbing guides (many of whom are parents themselves) will create the perfect outing for your family, regardless of age or fitness level.

Family Rock Climbing is available 7 days a week. Full days are generally 8 AM to 4 PM. Half days are usually mornings from 8 AM to 12 PM, but we can also do afternoons from 12 PM to 4 PM. If there are scheduling considerations at your end (and we know there can be with children), we’re glad to take those into account.

Because we charge a flat fee for your group, there’s no risk in bringing along someone who is less enthusiastic than others in the group; everyone climbs as much or as little as they like, with no pressure! Is one person in the family still a toddler and too young to climb? No need to find childcare, just bring ’em along and the parents can take turns watching the youngest while the other parent climbs.

Rates (flat rate for up to 6 people) for families with kids 17 and under:

Please contact us via email or phone if you have more than 6 participants or if your family/group includes “kids” 18 and older.

If you cancel 13 days or sooner from the booking, for any reason, the deposit/payment is forfeited.

Course Information

Our office is located just north of the family friendly town of North Conway, New Hampshire with its numerous lodging and dining options. We have great rock climbing options within 10 minutes or we can explore a bit further.

Half Day or Full Day?

  • Half days are great if you have young kids that may not stay focused for a full day. It’s also a great option if you’re short on time or if you just want to try family rock climbing without a full day commitment. We’ll most likely keep the drive short and choose to climb at a local cliff like Cathedral Ledge.
  • Full days give us more flexibility to explore cliffs farther from town or even climb at different locations. We’ll have time to learn additional climbing skills, and of course, climb more! We can take a relaxed lunch break to boost energy levels. And we certainly don’t have to climb the full day, the stopping time is completely up to you.
  • Don’t hesitate to contact us if you want advice about a half or full day.

Provided Gear

We provide all technical equipment including harnesses, helmets, and rock climbing shoes. We have full body harnesses and extra-small harnesses for young/small kids.

Mountains, Cliffs, & Routes

There are many different cliffs and route choices that work well for rock climbing with families in the White Mountains. We typically decide (with your input) on a location when we meet in the morning. That decision will involve discussing your goals and experience, checking the forecast, and a number of other variables. These popular cliffs in the general North Conway area offer great family climbs:

  • Cathedral Ledge
  • Whitehorse Ledge
  • Square Ledge
  • Lost Horizon
  • and many more!
